Detailer Tip: Paint Gauges

Newsletter Article 3

Everyone get’s all hung up on paint polishing and therefore paint perfection, but before you go there, you need to invest in the tools that will make you perform and look like a professional detailer. One such tool that should be in every detailer’s arsenal is a paint gauge.

Paint gauges measure the total thickness of the paint system on a car. High-end gauges can even give you the exact thickness of the clear coat, which as detailers is what we are most concerned with. Carefully measuring the paint of a car before you start a correction and during the process will help you avoid costly mistakes of going too far. It also a great tool to show your client as you inspect their vehicle prior to the job. Sure they are expensive, but there’s a cool factor there that will set you apart from your competition and show your client that you are a pro!
