Use Your Time and Energy Wisely
We all have the same 24 hours in a day and we each have a limited amount of energy. Yet, some people seem to accomplish so much more than others. What's their secret? It's not magic; they have simply learned to use their time and energy wisely. Want to learn to do the same? Here are a few tips…
- Identify your values. Identify what's important to you in life and what you want to spend your time and energy on. Once you know your values, you can start to make decisions that align with them. For example, if you value family, you might make time for family dinners and activities.
- Set boundaries. Say no to the things that don't matter to you. Don't be afraid to let go of commitments that drain your energy or take you away from your priorities.
- Delegate and eliminate. Not everything has to be done by you. If you can, delegate tasks to others. Be ruthless about eliminating things from your to-do list that aren't essential.
- Take breaks. It may seem counterintuitive, but taking a break can help you be more productive. You'll come back to your work feeling refreshed and focused.
- Learn to say no to distractions. Don’t argue with people. Don’t bet sucked into drama and don’t engage in the social media B.S. we see every day. Successful people don’t get involved in the B.S.
- Cut negativity out of your life. Replace it with people, conversations, content and projects that add to your energy instead of draining it.
- Track your time. Know where it’s wasted and where it’s used best.
- Reward yourself. Celebrate your accomplishments to keep you motivated and on track.
- Don't compare yourself to others. Focus on you and you only. Create a life that is fulfilling for you.
- Progress not perfection. Some days you won’t use your time and energy as wisely as you should. That’s ok as long as you are still making forward progress.
Remember, your time and energy are extremely valuable and limited resources. Treat them like the precious commodity they are so you can create a life that you love.
