I grew up and lived most of my life in Southern California (Just an old kid as I refuse to grow up).

I grew up having two love affairs...cars/aircraft and mother nature. Like so many of my So Cal brotherhood...the great state of California was outgrowing me!

Crowds were the norm...where ever you go...crowds and more crowds. It was starting to seem to me that I could no longer escape the crowds for a day or two away from the masses. Everywhere you went, there were mobs of people and traffic.

Even in my beloved San Bernardino National Forrest where I routinly excaped into the wonderful Southern California Mountains...my friends and I would climb Mt. San Gorgonio or Mt. Baldy only to find more people even at the top of 12,000 foot peeks we had waiting lines to enter the hiking trails!

Then, a decade ago...we took a trip to Idaho. You see, Sun Valley Idaho has long been a play ground for the rich and famous. It's common for locals to share the sidewalk or a spot at the bar with people who are houshold names...even the great writter Ernest Hemingway was at home in Idaho and is laid to rest there. 

But come on...Idaho...it's all about potato's right?  

WRONG...not anymore!

Idaho it turns out is a mecca for the wealthy and I made the decision to make that mecca my new found home as a professional detailer. I was heading to the Rockies with a plan to live a great life and a plan to get in good with the elite and wealthy that made Idaho and namely Sun Valley their stomping grounds!

My point to all of this?

Even in a small state and an even smaller community, there are niches all around you and I both. My wife and I identified, targeted and won over a very rewarding crowd that ened up making my career a success and has allowed me to travel the world detailing!

Can you see it now?

The little State of Idaho offered something that no one had yet tapped into and being a first or a "best" within any market has its rewards! 

Can you now vision your business in a new lite? Can you "be a first" like I was in your local community? Just think of the guy in little nothing Idaho...I made it work here...you can do it there...right where you are big or small if you do your homework and set it up right!

Ask yourself...what niche can I fill in my local market? Detailing is not just for Sunny Southern California or the beach cities of Florida. There are professional detailers across this country making a nice living off communities that many simply overlook. 

Ask yourself...

• Can I fill a need?
• Can/will my community support this business?
• What services can I offer and profit from?
• What is the price ceiling (even with super stars running around...Sun Valley has a low price ceiling when  but I knew that early on and learned to offer the right services)
• Is this my dream...can I make it happen (of course you can if you do it right!)

I hear "sunbelt state envy" among detailers all the time...I wish I was in California...I wish I was in Florida... 

Stop wishing and look into your own back yard!

Remember...I started in Sunny California but I made my name, my business, my reputation and I now work all over this great country and am performing more and more internationally and it was built in this little tiny no one thinks of state of Idaho!

GO make a plan...right now and work that plan and study that plan and find a mentor and build your dream...One potato...(I mean one rock) at a time!

As I write this, the annual Allen & Company Event is getting ready to start here in Idaho and I am starting to market and "work" the room before that event starts...I am joining three very wealthy clients and buddies tonight for dinner...two fellow So Cal natives that have like me fell in love with Idaho and those two friends help me land big business each year that I have no access to without them!Check out that event here
